Liver consultation for liver diseases

The liver consultation at Vivomed Bern is aimed at patients with known or suspected liver diseases, such as

  • Liver cirrhosis and its consequences
  • Elevated liver values without a known cause

Procedure of the liver consultation
Medical history and basic clarification

  • Detailed medical history, including alcohol and medication consumption
  • examination of concomitant diseases such as diabetes, obesity or metabolic disorders
  • Physical examination
  • Laboratory and imaging: liver values, coagulation, inflammation markers, virus diagnostics
  • Ultrasound or Fibroscan® to assess liver structure and stiffness

If necessary, further imaging procedures such as CT or MRI

Special clarifications

  • Endocrinological evaluation, e.g. for metabolic syndrome
  • Genetic tests or autoimmune parameters for specific issues
  • Individual therapy planning

Based on all the findings, the team creates a customized recommendation, which may include the following approaches depending on the disease:

  • Lifestyle interventions (diet, weight management, exercise)
  • Drug therapy (e.g. antiviral medication, medication for fatty liver inflammation)
  • monitoring and control of stable disease
  • Interventional or surgical options, if necessary
